What Is EMF Infrared?

Electromagnetic fields (EMFs) are a type of non-ionizing radiation emitted by all kinds of electronic appliances and wireless communication devices, such as electrical power lines, microwaves, cell phones, and Wi-Fi routers. They’re measured in a unit known as gauss (G) or milligauss (mG) depending on their level of emission.

Infrared saunas also emit EMFs via the heating elements used to generate heat inside the sauna and penetrate your skin. This is in contrast to traditional saunas that are heated either by a gas-powered or electric heater.

According to onestudy, even traditional saunas emit EMF levels. They range between 2 mG up to 80 mG.

In comparison, infrared saunas emit much lower EMF levels in the range of 0.6 mG to 5 mG. This is because they consist of either carbon heating or ceramic heating elements.

They’re also designed with EMF shielding materials to lower the level of EMF exposure.

Are EMF Infrared Saunas Safe?

TheInternational Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) has set guidelines for the recommended levels of safe EMF exposure. According to their guidelines, they’ve concluded that all EMF levels in infrared saunas are safe for most people.

This is because EMF levels are much lower than the recommended maximum exposure limit of 1000 mG for electronic devices and 2000 mG for wireless devices.

Plus, the exposure time in infrared saunas is limited to 15–20 minutes at most. If you want more time in the sauna, make sure you take a break between each session to give your body time to cool down.
